Making a House a Home with Art

Since moving to Jersey, I have really enjoyed the ability to start with a semi-blank canvas when it comes to interior design. The transfer between a standard three bed semi-detatched to a four bed, three storey victorian town house, with the most stunning high ceilings meant that we now had a lot of spaces and empty walls to fill.

Granted, as much as I’d love to do it all at once and create a stunning instagram show home, its just not possible. For two main reasons really! Firstly I am a mum to a two year old and despite best intentions, trying to keep her artwork on paper only, her biro seems to have a mind of its own and wanders over to the walls and furniture.

Secondly, I don’t want to bite off more than I can chew. In the past 6 years, my home decor and style has adapted and transformed leaving me with an aesthetic that I absolutely adore right now, but that doesn’t mean it won’t change. I want my home to be full of items that I absolutely adore that I can take on lives journey with me, things that mean something and not just the current fashion.

One thing that I have really invested in since moving homes, is artwork. I think I now have a piece in every room of the house which I truly love and draw inspiration from for the rest of my interior design and one of my favourite pieces has got to be this star constellation.

This picture represents the stars in the sky at the exact location and time that my daughter was born. For me it has the perfect monotone aesthetic to match my interior, whilst also holding a special and personal memory for our family.

Mapiful, who kindly gifted this print, feature a whole range of truly personal prints with a huge choice of designs and personalisation options to make your artwork unique. Whether it’s the location that you said ‘Yes!’ on a map or one of your favourite photographs made up from the words that most inspire you, Mapiful can transform you artwork in to something special.
